Surprise Valley. S.W. 1/2 of N.E. 1/4 & S.E. 1/2 of N.W. 1/4 & Lot 1/4 of S.W. 1/4 & N.W. 1/4 of N.E. 1/4 of Section 20, Township 42 North, Range 16 East, Mount Diablo Base and Meridian. Ditch commencing at a point about one half a mile from mouth of the Canyon, running about a northerly direction three fourths of a mile. Ditch twelve inches deep and fifteen inches wide.
Notice: Know all men by these presents that I Jacob F. Bittner, on the 16th day Oct. 1874, located and claim one hundred inches of water from what is known as Smith Creek, situated in Surprise Valley, Modoc County, State of California, for the purposes of irrigation, stock water on the following described land: S.W. 1/2 of N.E. 1/4 & S.E. 1/2 of N.W. 1/4 & Lot 1/4 of S.W. 1/4 & N.W. 1/4 of N.E. 1/4 of Section 20, Township 42 North, Range 16 East, Mount Diablo Base and Meridian. The water to be conducted in a ditch commencing at a point about one half a mile from mouth of the Canyon, running about a northerly direction three fourths of a mile more or less on to the above described lands in a ditch twelve inches deep and fifteen inches wide, and a copy of this notice to be posted at the stake 1/2 mile from mouth of Canyon.
