Notice: Know all men by these presents that I Jacob F. Bittner, on the 16th day Oct. 1874, located and claim one hundred inches of water from what is known as Smith Creek, situated in Surprise Valley, Modoc County, State of California, for the purposes of irrigation, stock water on the following described land: S.W. 1/2 of N.E. 1/4 & S.E. 1/2 of N.W. 1/4 & Lot 1/4 of S.W. 1/4 & N.W. 1/4 of N.E. 1/4 of Section 20, Township 42 North, Range 16 East, Mount Diablo Base and Meridian. The water to be conducted in a ditch commencing at a point about one half a mile from mouth of the Canyon, running about a northerly direction three fourths of a mile more or less on to the above described lands in a ditch twelve inches deep and fifteen inches wide, and a copy of this notice to be posted at the stake 1/2 mile from mouth of Canyon. Dated Surprise Valley this 16th day, October, A.D. 1874. Jacob F. Bittner, Claimant. Filed for record at request of Jacob F. Bittner this 22nd day of October A.D. 1874 at 10 min past 8 o'clock A.M. and recorded this 24th day of October A.D. 1874 at 16 min past 3 o'clock P.M. N. FitzGerald, Recorder.
