I Stephen Whittlesey, do this 5th day of December, A.D. 1874 give notice that I claim 50 inches of the water of Emerson Creek for the purpose of irrigation. The water to be used for irrigating the S.E. 1/4 of S.W. 1/4 of S.E. 1/4 Sec 30 and E 1/2 of the E 1/2 of Section 31 on Township forty (40) of Range Seventeen Est. Said water to be diverted by means of a ditch 8 feet wide and 3 feet deep at place of diversion. Surprise Valley, Modoc Co, Cal. December 5th A.D. 1874. Stephen Whittlesey. Filed for record at request of S. Whittlesey this 5th day of Dec. A.D. 1874 at 40 min past 4 o'clock P.M. N. FitzGerald, Recorder. Recorded Dec 15th A.D. 1874 at ten o'clock & 39 min. A.M. N.
