Siskiyou Co. Cal. February 11th 1871. Austin Hawkins Esq. Sir, I desire to have put upon the records of Siskiyou County the following described water right, on the 28th day of April 1864, I dug a ditch and appropriated One hundred inches of water for irrigation purposes from a stream in this valley as Eagle Creek. The water is taken from the South bank of Eagle Creek and runs east about one fourth mile through W.S. Clarks ranch to the main traveled road through the valley, thence one fourth mile through W. mintos ranch on to my own land.
Notes: SISKIYOU TRANSCRIPTION — John T. Eyster. 100 inches from Eagle Creek. Ditch dug APRIL 28, 1864 — one of the EARLIEST water uses in the entire record (same month as Ruble's May 1864, same year as Seheke spring 1864). Ditch runs HALF MILE through TWO other ranches (W.S. Clark and W. Mintos) — early infrastructure easements! Written as a letter to Austin Hawkins (recorder), Feb 11, 1871 — 7 years after the ditch was dug. Siskiyou Book 4 of Mining claims page 433.
