Thomas Bare... six hundred (600) inches of water, flowing in Bare Creek... NW 1/4 of the NW 1/4 of Sec. (15) fifteen, on the west side of the creek all in township (38) thirty eight North of Range (17) Seventeen East... I also state that I have made continued use of this water taken out at or near this place since May 1865 and used the same for irrigation...

Notes: PERFECTING CLAIM WITH OLDEST CONTINUOUS USE — 'continued use... since May 1865.' Original notice dated May 9, 1872 but claims use since 1865 (3 years before the county existed!). Creek named AFTER the claimant (Bare Creek). Not recorded in Modoc until Oct 4, 1906 — 34-YEAR gap. Recorded at request of Dodge and Parker (lawyers?). One of the earliest documented water uses in the region.
